American singer Chris Brown, 36, was arrested on Thursday in Manchester, UK, in connection with an alleged assault that took place at a London nightclub in February 2023.
The Metropolitan Police detained Brown at The Lowry Hotel shortly after 2:00 a.m. on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw during an incident at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, Hanover Square.
The arrest followed Brown’s arrival in Manchester by private jet just hours earlier. Police were alerted to his presence in the UK and promptly located him at the hotel. He remains in custody as the investigation continues under detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.
The alleged assault occurred on February 19, 2023, when Brown reportedly struck Diaw over the head multiple times with a bottle before punching and kicking him while he was on the ground.
Diaw sustained serious injuries, including a collapsed knee, requiring hospitalisation and the use of crutches upon release. He has since filed a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million (£12 million) in damages for his injuries and financial losses.
Chris Brown, a two-time Grammy Award winner known for hits such as ‘Beautiful People’, ‘No Air’, and ‘Run It’, is currently on his ‘Breezy Bowl XX Tour’ celebrating 20 years in the music industry.
The arrest could potentially disrupt his scheduled UK tour dates in June and July, including performances at Manchester’s Co-Op Live stadium and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the arrest but have not yet disclosed whether formal charges will be filed. Brown and his representatives have not issued a public comment on the matter.
