The NOPD on Friday arrested Jernell Brown (Black male) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on May 13, 2025, at the intersection of 2nd and Clara streets.
At about 4:21 p.m., officers were called to a call of a male down at the intersection.
Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
The victim was pronounced on scene to be deceased.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the victim and the perpetrator were involved in an altercation, during which the perpetrator shot the victim.
The perpetrator, later identified as Brown, was detained at the scene without incident and transported to the NOPD Homicide Division for questioning.
On May 15, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 37-year-old Pressley Reed and determined the cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.
As the investigation into the incident further progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives determined Brown should be charged with second-degree murder in this incident.
Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Brown, who was located and arrested on Friday at a residence in the Fifth District and booked accordingly.
