A Polish man has been charged with smuggling firearms after 61 guns and magazines loaded with ammunition were discovered.
Eryk Mariusz Kiler, 43, was charged following a National Crime Agency investigation which was sparked by Border Force officers’ discovery of the self-loading pistols and ammunition on 15 May.
Kiler was stopped at the inward tourist controls at the Port of Dover.
He was driving a Renault Scenic, which contained the hidden firearms and ammunition.
Kiler will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on 16 June for a pre-trial plea hearing.
Tracey Gasson, NCA operations manager, said, “This is a very significant discovery by our Border Force colleagues.
“The NCA and partners at home and abroad do everything possible to fight the threat of the criminal use of firearms.”
