An Ethiopia-born man is set to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today (7 May, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.
The AFP charged the man, 28, after he was located today (7 May, 2025) in Melbourne.
It will be alleged he breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa between 2 and 19 April, 2025, by failing to abide by his curfew hours and maintain his electronic monitoring device.
The man has been charged with five counts of failing to comply with curfew. This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine; one count of failing to maintain an electronic monitoring device. This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine; and one count of committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.
This offence carries a maximum penalty of three months’ imprisonment.
