Two Dominican Men Arrested in Jarabacoa With Over 5,000 Grams of Suspected Cocaine

In a simultaneous operation to pursue and confront the micro-trafficking of narcotic substances, agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office arrested two men from whom they seized more than 5,000 grams presumed to be cocaine in the municipality of Jarabacoa, province of La Vega.

The acting units, based on intelligence reports, mounted a joint interdiction operation to catch several men who were reportedly engaged in the sale and trafficking of drugs in the aforementioned municipality.

After monitoring and surveillance, it was possible to intercept a man aboard a Dodge truck, license plate L475761, on the main street in the centre of the city, who tried to evade the siege of the acting teams without achieving his objective.

On the instructions of the prosecutor, the vehicle was searched, locating a secret compartment (cove) under the back seat, where two packages (2,355 grams), presumably cocaine, were occupied.

Simultaneously, another individual was captured in the Atolladero neighbourhood in the municipality of Jarabacoa aboard a Hyundai Sonata car, license plate A933964, and tried to escape from the authorities.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, the floor of the front was seized, and three packages (3,535 grams) of a substance presumed to be cocaine.

The two men, both Dominicans, were handed over to the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of the province of La Vega to know coercive measures for the next few hours for violation of Law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances.

In the operation, two vehicles, several cell phones, a modem, cash, personal documents and other evidence under the control of the Public Prosecutor’s Office were seized.

The authorities are expanding the investigations about the frustrated illicit operation, while the substance seized was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding purposes.
