A federal grand jury recently returned a two-count indictment charging Ecknozzio C. Jackson, Jr., 33, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with distribution of heroin and fentanyl with death and serious bodily injury resulting from the use of the heroin and fentanyl.
On January 2, 2025, Jackson appeared for his arraignment and pled not guilty to the pending charges.
According to court documents, on or about December 16, 2019, Jackson distributed a substance containing a detectable amount of heroin, with serious bodily injury resulting from the use of the heroin after being ingested by an individual.
Then, on or about December 17, 2019, Jackson distributed a substance containing detectable amounts of heroin and fentanyl with death and serious bodily injury of an individual resulting from the use of said heroin and fentanyl.
The indictment counts are each punishable by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 20 years and up to life.
This matter is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul L. Pugliese.
An indictment is an accusation by a grand jury. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless adjudicated guilty at trial or through a guilty plea.
