Agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, supported by officers attached to the OCN-INTERPOL Santo Domingo, have arrested a man who was wanted for his links to the seizure of 263 packages seized in the province of Barahona at the International Airport of the Americas,
The man, Keibin Alberto Pérez Matos, was arrested at the terminal when he arrived on a commercial flight from Medellín, Colombia.
The defendant, who had been a fugitive since June 2021, was arrested in compliance with an order issued by the Court of Permanent Attention of the Judicial District of Barahona, where he will be known to coercive measures in the next few hours, for violation of Law 50-88.
Several operational teams of the DNCD and the navy, following an international drug trafficking network, intercepted near the beach of Los Patos in Barahona a speedboat with two occupants, inside which 10 nylon sacks were occupied, containing the 263 packages of the drug.
In that operation, two Venezuelans were arrested, and an M-16 type rifle, 5.56 calibre, two GPS, cell phones and a marine communication radio, among other evidence, were seized.
“The capture of the Dominican Perez Matos is part of the authorities’ monitoring of fugitives for cases of drug trafficking and other related crimes,” said the law enforcement agency.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD continue to expand the investigation to apprehend other individuals linked to this national and international drug trafficking network.
